LEWISTON — The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society has announced that it will join the Clear the Shelters third annual nationwide pet adoption drive from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19.
GAHS will offer reduced and waived pet adoption fees as part of the nationwide initiative that seeks to help families find and adopt homeless pets. Since 2015, Clear the Shelters has resulted in more than 70,000 pet adoptions nationwide.
Visit the shelter, 55 Strawberry Ave., to meet dozens of pets of different breeds, sizes and colors in need of homes. Adoption fees on pets over 6 months will be waived and adoptions fees for puppies and kittens will be discounted 25 percent. All dogs and cats will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations before going to their new home.
A real-time pet “Adoption Tracker” will record the total number of pets that are adopted across participating markets.
Adopters may use the hashtags #ClearTheShelters and #LoveMyPet to post photos of favorite pets on social media networks and follow the effort on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
