Shawn Demaray, Matt Friedman and Ellis Throckmorton have been added to the football coaching staff at Husson University.

Friedman will serve as the team’s wide receivers coach, while Demaray is the running backs coach and Throckmorton is the assistant defensive line coach.

“We are excited to have Matt, Shawn and Ellis join our coaching staff,” said Eagles head coach Gabby Price in a news release. “We have had outstanding assistant coaches at Husson and cannot wait for Matt, Shawn and Ellis to continue that tradition and put their own mark on Husson football.”

Friedman spent the last five years as head coach at Skowhegan Area High School, where the Indians went 5-4 last fall and qualified for the Class B North playoffs. He previously served as head coach at Madison-Carrabec from 2009 through 2011, and was an assistant at his alma mater, Jay High School, for six years before stepping away from the game.

A 1990 Jay graduate, he went on to amass 2,503 rushing yards as a running back at Plymouth (New Hampshire) State University, where he was a captain in 1993 and earned all-conference honors that season.

Demaray begins his second stint with the Husson coaching staff after previously serving as offensive line coach and strength and conditioning coach for the Eagles in 2009 and 2010.

Demaray spent last year as the defensive coordinator at John Bapst Memorial High School after five years on the coaching staff at the University of Maine, with those duties including coaching running backs and tight ends and serving as recruiting coordinator.

A three-year starter on the offensive line and an 2007 All-Colonial Athletic Association pick at UMaine, the Livermore Falls product began his coaching career in 2008 as offensive line coach at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine.

Throckmorton was a four-year letterwinner as a linebacker at Husson from 2013 through 2016, playing in 41 games. The two-time captain became just the second player in program history to record 300 career tackles.

Throckmorton, a Bangor High School graduate, was a three-time All-ECFC All-Academic selection and a four-time All-ECFC All-Conference linebacker.

Husson, the defending 2016 ECFC champion, is scheduled to kick off its 15th season at home against Union College of Schenectady, New York, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2.
