BEDFORD, N.H. — Peter William Tewhey, 77, of Bedford, N.H. passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 18, surrounded by his family following a brief illness.

Born in Lewiston, he was the oldest son of William and Marjorie (Peterson) Tewhey. Peter graduated from Lewiston High School in 1957, where he was a merit scholar, a member of the golf team and a high school delegate to Dirigo Boys State at the University of Maine. He then went on to attend the University of Maine. After marrying his wife, Anne-Marie (Legendre) Tewhey, he began his career as a packaging engineer at St. Regis in Albany, N.Y. He was then a longtime employee of Digital Equipment Corp. as a software engineer, working in Maynard, Hudson and lastly Andover, Mass. After leaving Digital in 1995, he switched careers to follow his great passion for radio and television. At WNDS in Derry, N.H., he enjoyed his time as a controller. Peter loved the media as an early child and did also have a Sunday morning program at WEVO radio station prior to working in television. He retired in 2010. Peter was a great lover of music, radio and television. In later years, he loved days at the ocean with Anne, road trips throughout New England, time spent with his brothers and spending time with his children and two grandchildren.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Anne-Marie of Bedford; his brothers, John Tewhey and his wife, Gloria, Stephen Tewhey and his wife, Deborah, both of Gorham; his brother-in-law, Peter Legendre and his wife, Judy, of Portland; his son, Patrick Tewhey of Manchester, N.H.; his daughter, Jennifer Drohan, husband, John, and his two beloved grandchildren, Sam and Max, of Southborough, Mass.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Peter also leaves his best friend since childhood, Paul Murphy of Lewiston.
