AUBURN — The deadline passed Thursday for submitting nomination papers to run for municipal office, and the final list of candidates is set for the November election. 

There is some guaranteed turnover on both the City Council and School Committee, meaning city and school government in Auburn could have a different tone next year. 

In the mayoral race, Ward 4 Councilor and attorney Adam Lee will face Jason Levesque, who is CEO of Argo Marketing in Lewiston. Three-term Mayor Jonathan LaBonte announced in June that he would not seek re-election. 

At the City Council level, Jim Pross, Bob Stone and Grady Burns are not seeking re-election. Candidates confirmed Thursday were Holly Lasagna in Ward 1, Robert Hayes in Ward 2, Alfreda Fournier in Ward 4, Dustin Miles in Ward 5, and Belinda Gerry and R. Wayne Werts for the at-large seats. 

Councilors Andrew Titus, Leroy Walker and David Young are each seeking another term. 

For School Committee, Robert Mennealy is running for Ward 1, incumbents Bonnie Hayes in Ward 2, Thomas Kendall in Ward 3, and Daniel Poisson Sr. in Ward 5. Incumbent Faith Fontaine is running along with Patricia Goutier and Claire Nacinovich for the at-large seats. 

No candidates are running for School Committee in Ward 4, which City Clerk Sue Clements-Dallaire said could necessitate a special election. Or, she said, someone could declare themselves a write-in candidate. That person would need at least 25 write-in votes to qualify. 

Candidates for mayor must have signatures from at least 100 registered voters. City Council and School Committee candidates running in a ward must have at least 25 signatures from qualified voters in that ward, while at-large candidates need 25 signatures from any qualified voters in the city. 

In Lewiston, potential candidates have some extra time. Completed papers must be filed with the City Clerk’s office no later than 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8. 

The municipal election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7. All seats in both cities are two-year terms.
