LIVERMORE FALLS — At a meeting Thursday, the RSU 73 board of directors voted unanimously to hire Marc Keller of New Vineyard as the new assistant principal/athletic director at Spruce Mountain High School in Jay.

Keller has been a physical education and health teacher at Mt. Abram High School in Salem Township since 1999. This is his first assistant principal/athletic director position, and he said he was eager to get started.

“I’m tremendously excited,” Keller said. “It’s a challenge that I’m ready to face.”

Keller graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle in 1993. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s degree in health education.

Before going to Mt. Abram, Keller taught for one year at Scarborough High School. He also worked at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Portland and was assistant director in charge of programs at Hammond Street Senior Center in Bangor.

Keller has extensive athletic coaching experience, having coached boys’ basketball, baseball, softball, boys’ soccer and girls’ soccer. He noted that he had coached Mt. Abram teams in competitions with Jay, Livermore Falls and Spruce Mountain high schools through the years and had enjoyed being around the students and parents from those schools.

In other business, the board accepted the superintendent’s nomination of Myrna Robinson as the Spruce Mountain Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade science teacher for the 2017-18 school year.
