WATERVILLE — Jack Thompson ran for two touchdowns to lead Waterville to a 21-7 victory over Mt. Blue in Class B crossover football action Saturday.

The win was the first for the Purple Panthers since the 2015 season.

Mt. Blue’s Abram Meader ran for a touchdown and gained 84 yards on 20 carries in the loss.

Girls’ soccer

Yarmouth 2, Gray-New Gloucester 0

GRAY — Sara D’Appolonia and Hannah Corey scored second-half goals to pilot Yarmouth to a 2-0 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in girls’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The first half saw several scoring opportunities. The Patriots’ best chance came from a free kick that rattled off the crossbar, but they were unable to put the rebound back on target.

The Clippers were able to break through the defense with just over 26 minutes left in the game when D’Appolonia broke free and sent the ball just inside the far post to open up the scoring.

Corey scored just three minutes later to provide some cushion for Yarmouth down the stretch.

Boys’ soccer

Telstar 4, Dirigo 0

BETHEL — Tristen Lilly scored a hat trick as Telstar dispatched Dirigo 4-0 in boys’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels and Cougars battled tough in the first half. Lilly broke through at the 21:03 mark for the first goal of the game and a 1-0 halftime lead for Telstar.

The Rebels came out strong and disciplined in the second half. Controlling the ball and making connecting passes paid off as Lilly relayed one to Michael Jones for the second goal.

Blake Rothwell and Zach Hill furnished well-executed passes to Lilly for his second and third tallies of the game.

Bangor 3, Lewiston 2

BANGOR — Senior forward Garth Berenyi notched a hat trick as Bangor edged Lewiston 3-2 in boys’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.

Berenyi scored for the Rams 1:30 into the contest. But, Bilal Hersi converted a pass to Noralddin Orthman to tie the game in the 19th minute for Lewiston.

The contest remained tied until the 73rd minute when Berenyi scored on an indirect kick.

Goalie Cooper Millett made seven saves for the Blue Devils, while goalie Jacob Munroe turned away six to earn the win in net for Bangor.

Fryeburg Academy 4, Poland 1

FRYEBURG — Noah Hart scored a pair of goals to pace Fryeburg to a 4-1 win over Poland in a WMC contest Saturday.

Gunnar Gurnis and Max Kummer each added a goal in the victory for the Raiders (1-0).

Cullen Pietrantonio made 12 saves in Fryeburg’s goal, while Matthew Thebarge made 27 stops for the Knights (0-1).

Parker Sherburne scored Poland’s lone goal in the second half. It was assisted by Andrew Frechette.
