Kimball Street Studio
offers workshop
on cosplay
and designing your costume
and an art workshop on creating
and developing comics characters.

LEWISTON – Art gallery and frame shop Kimball Street Studios, 191 Lisbon St.,  will be getting a little stranger this September. Its upcoming exhibit, “Infinite Canvas: Comics and Fantasy Illustration,” will deck the gallery’s walls with a variety of exciting and interesting work from Maine-based comics and illustration artists.

In an increasingly visual world, comics and illustration are more popular than ever. “Infinite Canvas,” affords cartoonists and illustrators from “outsider” and marginalized groups the opportunity to share their perspectives with the world in ways that are funny, fantastic, deranged, critical, subversive—allowing modern comics and fantasy illustration to capture and recreate our world and what it can be. “Infinite Canvas” presents a range of work displayed like the unending canvases of online comics.

Accompanying programming, including workshops and an artist panel, will allow visitors several frames from which to view and engage with the work. The exhibit and events will complement the Great Falls Comics Expo taking place on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Lewiston Memorial Armory.

Visitors will have an opportunity to preview “Infinite Canvas,” during the L-A Artwalk, Friday, Sept. 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. The formal opening reception for “Infinite Canvas,” is 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 13, Kimball Street hosts a free cosplay workshop, all-ages 10 and up,  from 5 to 7 p.m. Participants will get an introduction to “cosplay” (dressing as your favorite comics and fantasy characters) and get tips and tricks on how to design their own outfit. Facilitators are Ben and Bud Santos. The event is free; refreshments will be provided.
