DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you tell us the latest reason for delay at the Auburn Krispy Kreme, and when the Saco Krispy Kreme will open? Thanks! — No name, Auburn

ANSWER: According to Auburn Economic and Community Development Director Michael Chammings, Krispy Kreme is about to get going on its interior fit-up and will be open later this fall. They will be one of four businesses, including Firehouse Subs, which opened about a month ago, at 410 Center St.

Because Krispy Kreme’s franchise criteria required a “stand-alone” store to be the first to open in Maine, the owner focused his efforts on the Saco location first. So if you just can’t handle waiting several more weeks to get your doughnuts in Auburn, you can drive to Saco to savor these famous confections in just a few days. The store is planning its grand opening for Sept. 18. We’ll be excited to see the “hot sign” lit up in both locations!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have some sweatshirts and three sleeping bags to donate to an organization that gives away these items to people in need. I’m hoping you have some on file or your readers know of one. Please phone Jan at 743-0639 and leave a message. Thank you. — Jan, no town

ANSWER: You could choose a charitable organization by calling 211 or visiting the website at www.211maine.org for a complete listing. Also, many area churches maintain clothing closets for people in need. The homeless shelters, Hope Haven Gospel Mission at 209 Lincoln St. (783-6086) and St. Martin DePorres Residence (786-4690) could match your warm, cozy items to the right person as well.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church, Norway Grange and Friends are seeking donations of lightly used clothing and light houseware items for the Clothing Giveaway to be held Sept. 30 at the Norway Grange on Whitman Street. Donations may be dropped off at the Norway Grange on Saturdays from 7 to 9:30 a.m. or Sept. 25-29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations of new underwear and socks are greatly appreciated.
