RUMFORD — Espen Lamberg scored a volley on a corner from a ball headed by Will Sorensen in the third minute of the first overtime period as Mountain Valley edged Carrabec 2-1 in boys’ soccer action Wednesday afternoon.

Colin Rugh scored th Cobras’ (0-2) lone goal in the second half to even up the score and send the game into overtime.

Sorensen scored the first goal of the game for the Falcons (2-0) in the winning effort.

Lisbon 3, Winthrop 2

LISBON — Noah Austin played the role of hero as he put home a header with two minutes to play in Lisbon’s 3-2 victory over Winthrop in boys’ soccer action Wednesday.

DJ Douglass had the assist on the game-winner.

Cam Possion had the Greyhounds’ first two goals , scoring in the first half and on a penalty kick in the second half. Steve Martin had an assist on the first goal.

Rowan Goebel-Bain scored two first-half goals to give Winthrop a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. His first goal came off a penalty kick. The second goal was assisted by Jared McLaughlin.

Jonah Sautter had three saves for Lisbon (3-0-1), and Ben Boulet had four saves for the Ramblers (1-1-1).

Wiscasset 4, Dirigo 3

DIXFIELD — Senior center midfielder Max Sampson scored a hat trick, including the game-clincher with just 5.6 seconds remaining in double overtime, to lift Wiscasset to a 4-3 victory over Dirigo in boys’ soccer action Wednesday afternoon.

John Snowman and Zeb Houghton put the first two tallies on the board in the first half for the Cougars (0-4), and closed the the stanza with a 2-1 lead.

Following three unanswered goals by the Wolverines (1-3), Mateo Lapointe forced overtime with a late goal for Dirigo.

Telstar 3, Spruce Mountain 2

JAY — Tyler Hill netted the game-winning goal as Telstar highjacked Spruce Mountain 3-2 in boys’ soccer action Wednesday afternoon.

Tristen Lilly tied the game at 1-1 for the Rebels, and Gage Kneeland evened up the game in the second half at 2-2 for the Phoenix. 

Zach Hill and Blake Rothwell were key to the Rebels’ midfield.

Hebron 9, Hyde 0

HEBRON — Senior forward Michael Tahiru collected four goals to lead Hebron to a 9-0 victory over Hyde in boys’ soccer action Wednesday evening.

The Lumberjacks (1-0) jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead. Justin Bell contributed a goal and three assists, while Freddy Hohmann chipped in with another three assists.

Goalie Steven Waddill made 11 saves for the Wolfpack (0-1), while goalie Keith Mank averted four shots to earn the win in net for Hebron.

Field hockey

Oak Hill 6, Telstar 1

BETHEL — Sophomore forward Desirae Dumais notched a hat trick as Oak Hill sailed to a 6-1 victory over Telstar in field hockey action Wednesday afternoon.

The Raiders (3-2) took a 4-0 halftime lead. The Oak Hill midfield handled the ball well and kept it out of the defensive end for much of the game.

Adelle Surette contributed two goals and two assists for Oak Hill.

Myla Hudson scored the lone Rebel (0-5) goal.

Goalie Perry Morton defended against a flurry of shots, making 26 saves for Telstar. Goalie Nataliegh Moody stopped three to earn the win in net for Oak Hill.

Dirigo 3, Hall-Dale 0

DIXFIELD — Kailey Hackett converted an assist from Alyssa McTyre to initiate the scoring as Dirigo blanked Hall-Dale 3-0 in field hockey action Wednesday afternoon.

Ashley Walker netted the Cougars’ second goal to put Dirigo up 2-0 at the half.

Goalies Mia Rollins and Kaylee Magee made 12 saves for the Bulldogs, while goalie Morgan Morrow prevented five to earn the win in net for Dirigo.

Girls’ soccer

Poland, Lake Region tie, 2 OT

POLAND — Poland and Lake Region battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie in girls’ soccer action Wednesday evening.

Senior striker Katriana Pratt put the Knights (1-2-1) on the board in the first half for a 1-0 lead at the break.

Freshman striker Shauna Hancock evened the contest at 1-1 in the second half for the Lakers (0-2-1)

Goalie Madison Rock made 10 saves for Lake Region, while goalie Sydney Hudson deflected 13 for Poland.

Brewster 3, Hebron 0

WOLFBORO, N.H. — Junoir forward Maddie Flagg got the ball rolling with the game-opening goal as Brewster coasted to a 3-0 victory over Hebron in girls’ soccer action Wednesday evening.

The Bobcats (1-0) posted two second-half goals, including one with two minutes remaining in regulation.

Goalie Aarti Singh diverted 17 shots for the Lumberjacks (0-1), while Brooke Rooney warded off seven to earn the win in net for Brewster.

College field hockey

Bowdoin 1, Bates 0

LEWISTON — Kara Finnerty scored on an open goal with 6:57 remaining in overtime to lift Bowdoin 1-0 over rival Bates in college field hockey action Wednesday evening.

Finnerty’s goal was only the fourth shot attempted in the game by the Polar Bears (1-1), and the second on goal. Bates outhsot Bowdoin by a 15-4 margin, including a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Eight minutes into the overtime period, Elizabeth Bennewitz sent a long ball from her defensive position forward to Finnerty, who outfought a Bates defender for the ball, then managed to poke the ball past Bates goalkeeper Adelae Durand, who had advanced out of the goal.

An all-out effort by the Bobcats’ (0-3) defense formed a virtual wall around their defensive circle for almost the entire game. Samantha Reiss, Caroline O’Reilly, Shelbie McCormack and Grace Fitzgerald allowed the Polar Bears limited opportunty.

Men’s soccer

St. Joseph’s 4, UMaine-Farmington 0

STANDISH — Saint Joseph’s College toppled the University of Maine at Farmington 4-0 in men’s soccer action Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Brett Mattos buried a penalty-kick goal in the 18th minute for the Monks (4-0), and one-timed a header off a perfectly-placed Cody Elliott corner kick at the 84:33 mark.

Goalie Matt Wilson made 11 saves for Bates, while junior goalie Blake Mullen made one stop to earn his third shutout of the season and 19th of his career for St. Joseph’s.
