PARIS — A Bethel man pleaded no contest Wednesday morning in Oxford County Superior Court to a felony charge of sexual abuse of a minor.
Brian Piawlock, 29, made a plea agreement in which the state dropped three other charges: felony gross sexual assault, felony aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs and furnishing liquor to a minor. He was arrested in September on a charge of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
The no contest plea means he acknowledges he could be found guilty at trial by a reasonable judge or jury.
Active-Retired Justice Robert Clifford sentenced Piawlock to five years in prison with all but two years suspended and two years of probation. He will be subject to random searching and testing, can not use or possess alcohol or illegal drugs, and must sign up for drug, alcohol and sexual abuse counseling.
Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Winter said Piawlock will have to register with the state as a sex offender.
Piawlock also pleaded no contest to violating conditions of release and operating under the influence.
Clifford sentenced him to two years in prison on the violation of conditions of release charge and seven days on the OUI charge. Both sentences will run concurrently with the two-year sentence for sexual abuse.
