Workers with Smokey’s Greater Shows set up a ride in preparation for the 177th annual Farmington Fair, Sept. 17-23, at the Farmington Fairgrounds.
FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Agricultural Society fair will begin Sunday with 4-H shows and steer-pulling, Grange exhibits and rides at the Farmington Fairgrounds.
The 177th annual Farmington Fair will continue through Saturday, Sept. 23. A full schedule is available at www.farmingtonfairmaine.com under Farmington Fair Book.
Highlights include the Maine Barrel Racing Association, with members scattered across the state, presenting a show at 10 a.m. Sunday.
The Miss Farmington Fair pageant will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Girls in three age groups from 7 through 18 will seek the title. The pageant “draws a very good crowd, one of the best,” said Robert Underwood, supervisor of entertainment.
A new livestock show will test the cow-showing skills of some local politicians and town officials at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Worthley Arena.
The Politically “Cow-rect” Livestock Show will feature state Sen. Tom Saviello, R-Wilton, Rep. Russell Black, R-Wilton, Farmington Town Manager Richard Davis and Wilton Town Manager Rhonda Irish, said Judy Smith, community education assistant at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
The livestock show will follow the annual 4-H show taking place at 4 p.m. Monday. After showing their animals, the youths will mentor the politicians, Smith said.
The week includes daily parimutuel racing, ox and horse pulling, a firemen’s muster and a NAWA wrestling exhibition at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
