Rainbow Bicycle shop owner John Grenier posted a public thank-you on Facebook for saving his store, after a Jeep crashed into a blue traffic post in front of it early Friday morning on Lisbon Street in Lewiston.

LEWISTON — John Grenier posted on Facebook Friday, “Thank you blue post for saving Rainbow Bike this morning!” after a Jeep took out a traffic post in front of his shop at 97 Lisbon St.

Police said they received a call about the crash at 6:36 a.m. and discovered Chance Veinott, 35, of Turner, had driven his 2014 Jeep Patriot into the post.

The Jeep had to be towed. No additional details were available about the accident.

Megan Bates, a deputy director at Lewiston Public Works, said the posts are designed to do exactly what it did — prevent vehicles from going into buildings downtown.

Public Works was waiting on a repair estimate Friday morning. Bates anticipated it would be repaired right away.
