AUBURN — A joint fundraising yard sale will be hosted from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 30, by the Lewiston Auburn Kiwanis Club and Boy Scout Troop 121, at United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave. The rain-or-shine sale will feature household goods, small furniture, tools, children’s toys and games, sports equipment and clothing.

Proceeds earned by the Kiwanis Club will be donated to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. The nonprofit agency promotes the healing of victims of child sexual abuse by providing a strong community response to investigation, treatment and prevention of abuse.

The CAC-AFO provides a location where children who have been abused can be interviewed by a specially trained forensic interviewer in a child-friendly environment. Those who need information from the child (law enforcement, DHHS, prosecutors) can witness the interview via closed circuit television in another room. They can also feed questions to the interviewer to get additional information they need to complete an investigation.

Troop 121 offers youth with special physical, mental and emotional challenges the opportunity for success in a safe Scouting environment that builds character, encourages citizenship, teaches life skills and develops personal fitness. It serves Scouts from Androscoggin, Kennebec and Oxford counties. Don Malpass, troop leader, said money raised at the yard sale is needed to support camping and other troop outings.

The Kiwanis Club will also kick off this year’s shoe drive during the sale. Anyone can help by donating gently worn used or new shoes.

In conjunction with Funds2Orgs, the Kiwanis Club will earn funds based on the total weight of the shoes collected. The club raises funds for student scholarships, along with supporting several programs in the area that focus on children and youth.
