PARIS — A Waterford man was sentenced Friday at Oxford County Superior Court to 18 months in prison for assaulting a woman and a police officer twice in two months.
Justin Stanton, 33, was arrested in November 2016 on charges of felony aggravated assault, assault on an officer, domestic violence assault, refusing to submit to arrest and violating conditions of release. While out on bail, he was arrested Feb. 5 on the same charges.
In exchange for a guilty plea, the state dropped all but the domestic violence assault charge for the November 2016 incident, and dropped charges of domestic violence assault, refusing to submit to arrest and violating conditions of release for the Feb. 5 incident.
Stanton was sentenced to 364 days on the 2016 incident, and five years on the 2017 incident, with all but 18 months suspended.
Stanton will also serve four years of probation after being released.
The sentences will run concurrently.
Oxford County Deputy Joshua Daley wrote in an affidavit that in November 2016, a woman in Waterford reported she had been head-butted and choked by Stanton, and that she had scratched Stanton’s forearms while she was being choked.
Daley wrote that the victim said she put Stanton in a headlock shortly before police arrived.
On Feb. 5, Daley wrote in an affidavit that he and Deputy Stephan Witham responded to a report of an assault in Waterford. They found the same woman from the November 2016 assault with dried blood on her lip and several bruises and abrasions on her face, and Stanton asleep on the floor. She said he assaulted her for about two hours and she pretended to be unconscious to make him stop.
