PARIS — A Rumford man was sentenced Sept. 15 at Oxford County Superior Court for aggravated trafficking in a scheduled drug.

Lonzel Warner, 48, was one of three people arrested May 4 on the charge. The others were David Huston, 45, of Rumford and Marie Weston, 25, of Rumford.

The charges stemmed from an investigation into a suspected overdose death on Waldo Street in December 2016.

Warner pleaded guilty to the two charges and will not have to serve time in jail. If he meets certain conditions he will be allowed to withdraw his plea and plead guilty to a lesser charge, which will result in a $400 fine.

If he does not meet the conditions, he will have to return to court.

Special conditions include being subject to random search and testing, having no contact with Huston and Weston, and completing 100 hours of community service by Aug. 1, 2019.

If the case had gone to trial, the state would have called Rumford police to testify that on Dec. 28, 2016, they investigated an overdose death

Police wrote in an affidavit that after several interviews, they determined that Huston, after getting his prescription for Percocet filled on Dec. 27, returned to his apartment with Weston and met with Warner, who took 116 of the 120 Percocet pills in return for marijuana.

After being arrested, Warner admitted that he had been trading Percocet for marijuana and other goods with “two or three people in the Rumford, Mexico and Dixfield area,”  the affidavit said.

He later confessed that after he picked up the Percocet from Huston on Dec. 27, he visited the apartment of the woman who had overdosed and gave her a Percocet in exchange for arranging Huston and Weston to get a ride to pick up the Percocet.
