FARMINGTON — The Farmington Recreation Department has been organizing hikes as the One Day Wanderers Club for people ages 50 and over for the last two years.

The hiking trails are ranked moderate/intermediate hikes, offering challenging terrain and stunning scenery.

The goal for coordinating the hikes is to bring people together who share a love of the outdoors and enjoy hiking. They have a cup of tea at each destination.

Groups leave the trailhead at 8:30 a.m. during the Friday hikes.

Groups leave the trailhead at 10 a.m. on Saturday hikes and hikers should bring $7 or so for lunch.

• Friday, Sept. 29, Mount Pisgah fire tower, 2 mi., Winthrop;

• Saturday, Oct. 14, Flagstaff Hut, 3.6 mi., Carrying Place; and 

• Friday, Oct. 20, Bald Mountain fire tower, 2.3 mi., Oquossoc. Bonus, hit up the “Height of Land” on the way home.
