FARMINGTON — Police say a Weld man was arrested Tuesday on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child after police found a 3-year-old left alone and sleeping in a room where numerous prescription, illegal drugs and used syringes were also found.

Ian K. Klanfer, 35, the father of the child, was arrested when police responded to investigate an unattended death in Weld.

After police obtained a search warrant, they found the sleeping child. More charges are pending, according to a release from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office was notified of the death about 4 a.m. Tuesday. Elspeth Donnelly, 29, originally from Haverhill, Massachusetts, but now living in Weld, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Rumford Hospital. Police say the cause of death is still under investigation.

She was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle by her boyfriend, Klanfer, and Eric Boncore, 42, both of Weld.

When Franklin County deputies and a Maine State Trooper arrived at the residence, they found Donnelly’s child sleeping and a couple, visiting from Texas, who were also sleeping.

They were unaware that the others had left during the night leaving the 3-year-old alone and unattended, according to the release.
