LISBON — Democrats will have at least two choices when they gather Sunday to pick a candidate as their standard-bearer in a special election to fill a vacant state House seat.

Scott Hall, who serves on the Planning Board and Development Committee, hopes his party will give him the opportunity.

“Lisbon is on the upswing,” Hall said in a prepared statement. “We can keep this momentum going.”

Also in the running for the Democratic endorsement is Scott Gaiason, a retired building contractor who lost his bid last year in the GOP-dominated 56th District.

The caucus is slated for 10 a.m. at the Town Office.

Lisa Ward, the Democratic chairwoman in Lisbon, called for all of the town’s Democrats to attend and help pick a candidate. If anyone else is interested in running, there’s still time, she said.

Republicans this week agreed to back Rick Mason as their nominee to fill the seat that’s been vacant since his wife, Gina Crafts Mason, died unexpectedly earlier this month.
