DEAR SUN SPOTS: Tabers has been collecting aluminum can tabs for MaryAnn Norcross to take to the Ronald McDonald House in Portland. The response from our customers has been FANTASTIC!!! We sincerely thank you all, especially the Rumford Rotary Club. This is something that Tabers will do again next season, so please save your can tabs over the winter. Thank you.

ANSWER: It’s really quite amazing that I have received your note just now regarding Ronald McDonald House. I stayed there this very week to be near a precious little loved one at Maine Medical Center. She is doing much better and it has been such a blessing to have such a wonderful place to spend the night and to receive the caring support of all who make Ronald McDonald House so very special. Thank you, Tabers, and to all the people who participate in the Pop Tab Collection Program that helps Ronald McDonald House offset its expenses. Little things can make a big difference.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We haven’t seen the reporter Guerin Austin lately. Is she on vacation or out sick? Also what has happened to Steve Lyons? We haven’t seen him for a while, either.

— No name, Peru

ANSWER: The NESN Boston Red Sox sideline reporter Guerin Austin returned to work in late August after missing games during the second half of this season because she was recovering from a concussion. Her Twitter feed reported that during the All-Star Break she fainted on a plane and fell. Guerin was out of work longer than she first thought she would be.

If that wasn’t bad enough, on Sept. 11, Guerin tweeted, “Released from the hospital- going to be ok. Thank you for all of the prayers. My face hurts- hopefully I can get my teeth fixed tomorrow.” The unlucky lady was in an automobile accident that landed her in the emergency room with minor facial injuries. Hopefully, she will stay safe from here on out!

As far as former Red Sox utility man and current NESN analyst Steve Lyons is concerned, he was missing from Red Sox telecasts in late summer because he was dealing with a domestic battery charge after an incident involving his girlfriend at his home in California, according to Boston Globe reports written by staffer Nick Cafardo on Aug. 5 and 16. The case against him was eventually dismissed.
