AUBURN — Former Edward Little High School librarian Patricia M. Gautier announces her candidacy for the Auburn School Committee at-large seat.

She wants to give back to the community and share her experiences with Auburn students, she said in a prepared statement.

She served as high school librarian for 25 years and saw thousands of students come through the school, including her three children.

While librarian she was tri-chairwoman of two accreditation leadership teams that were instrumental in bringing the need for a new high school to the public. She also worked on four building committees that was followed by Auburn winning state funding for a new school in 2016. Gautier said she’s excited about the new high school being planned.

As a retiree, Gautier said she has a unique perspective when it comes to finances. She plans to be fiscally responsible “while honoring the great need of the school system for sufficient funding.”

Gautier graduated from Portland High School, Wheaton College and got her master’s degree from the University of Maine in Orono. Since retiring she’s been involved in the Community of Kindness, a local group of women interested in social issues in Lewiston-Auburn. She’s worked on the Green Dot initiative which has heightened awareness of everyone’s role in diffusing bullying in everyday incidents.

Gautier, of Pride Road, has lived in Auburn with her husband, Don, since 1985.
