Great Maine Apple Day is Sunday, Oct. 15, and great apples all over Maine are being harvested. This apple picked on Paris Hill is one of the largest picked this year — or maybe ever — at the Mott Orchard, weighing in at nearly 1½ pounds. The apple is a Wolf River, a large domestic variety that originated in Wolf River, Wisconsin. “This kind of apple is the perfect apple for baking,” said Wini Mott, the orchard owner.
