Oxford Historical Society announces officers

OXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society held its annual election of officers in August.

New officers for 2017-2018 are Patricia Larrivee, president; Elton Record, vice president; John Crumpton, treasurer; and Marilyn Jones, secretary.

Trustees are Linda Cushman, Robert Tripp, Elton Record, Michael Quinn.

New Members may join the Society for $5 per year or $100 for a lifetime membership.

Rumford Seniors plan trips

PERU — The Rumford Seniors will host a bus trip to the Merrill Auditorium on Friday, Dec. 15, to see “The Magic of Christmas” at Merrill Auditorium. 

The price for the trip is $55. Those attending will provide their own lunch at 2 p.m. following the matinee.

The bus will leave 11:30 a.m. from the center at the Peru School. 

Plans are being made for a trip to Pennsylvania Amish Country in the spring.

Mexico Historical Society to meet

MEXICO — The Mexico Historical Society will meet at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at in the Calvin Lyons Room of the Mexico Town Office.

The Society will share a pot luck supper followed by a presentation from guest speaker Roger Whitehouse. 

Whitehouse will talk about growing up in Ridlonville and some of his Halloween experiences.

The public is invited, and new members are welcome.

Gold LEAF offers courses

FARMINGTON — The Gold LEAF Institute Senior College at University of Maine Farmington will hold the kickoff of its fall/winter term from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Old South Church, 227 Main St. Course registration will take place from 4 to 5 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

Gold LEAF is a member-run organization that promotes lifelong learning. Membership is open to anyone 50 years of age or older, and to spouse/partner regardless of age. Meet the presenters and current members at the open house.
