DEAR SUN SPOTS: The United New Auburn Association, the Boys & Girls Club of Auburn and the Auburn Recreation Parks Department are looking for volunteers to serve as crossing guards, donations of candy and treats and prizes for our costume contest for our 7th Annual “Hello-ween” Celebration from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in New Auburn.

We wish to invite all ghouls and goblins to come visit participating New Auburn businesses. Be sure to be decked out in your scariest best for treats, games and, new this year, participate in our parade of characters from 1 to 2 p.m. We will have games galore, costume judging and lots of scary fun. For more information about our event, volunteering and to donate, contact Ken Blais at 753-0171 or Kathy Shaw at 320-1969. This is a safe trick-or-treating event guaranteed to please young and old!

ANSWER: What a great way to celebrate a safe and fun Halloween!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Friends are planning a 50th Sock Hop Anniversary Party next summer and would like to hire a band to play music from the ’50s, ’60s and early ’70s. The June party will be held in Windham. Sun Spots readers are always helpful so any leads would be appreciated. Please email me at subme2016@gmail.com with names and contact information. Thank you. — Susan, no town

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am a first-time writer to your special column. You are a veritable fountain of information. I’m looking for a place to purchase Fleishmann yeast cakes. I’ve tried Hannaford, Walmart, a range of health food stores and even a brewery, with no luck. Do you, or some of your readers, know where this could be purchased? Thanks in advance for your answer, as I’m sure someone will have the solution.

ANSWER: Fleischmann’s cake yeast, also known as wet, fresh, or compressed yeast, is a perishable item with a limited shelf life and a need for constant refrigeration so its availability is limited. Many retailers only stock it in the cooler months and around the holidays. This traditional form of yeast is normally found in the refrigerated dairy section of the grocery store.

I called Fleishmann’s and they don’t have a retailer for the yeast cakes listed in our area. They suggested you approach the courtesy desk where you shop regularly and make a special request of the dairy manager to get the yeast cakes for you. Readers, if you spot it in your store, let us know!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read your column every day. It is always good. Do you have any recommendations for housekeeping work for older people? Hoping you do. I will watch for your answer.

— T.L., Lewiston

ANSWER: A good place to start is to call SeniorsPlus in Lewiston at 795-4010. They may have listings for housekeepers. They are open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Readers, do you have recommendations for housekeeping you would like to share?
