AUBURN — Are you willing to part with your “perfect” tree?

The city of Auburn is seeking a local tree to be featured this holiday season in Festival Plaza. A city news release late last week described such a scenario:

“Picture this: YOUR tree, glowing and decorated in gorgeous holiday lights, surrounded by hundreds of people who have gathered to see it light up downtown Auburn.”

The city states that the ideal tree will be a 25-foot or taller evergreen – spruce or fir – located in Auburn, that is also relatively accessible, meaning not close to power lines or other obstructions.

The “winning” tree will be removed and transported at no cost to the property owner.

The city is asking residents who believe their tree can “make the cut,” to visit www.auburnmaine.gov/pages/neighborhood/tree and describe why your tree should be the winner. Entries are due by Friday, Oct. 27.

The tree will be lit on Saturday, Nov. 25, during the “Twin Cities Festival of Lights Holiday Parade,” which officially kicks off the holiday season downtown.

“If your tree wins, you will be recognized through publicity and social media, and you and your family will be invited to the lighting ceremony,” the news release said.
