I am writing in regards to the potential merger of the cities of Lewiston and Auburn. To me, the merger makes sense from a business perspective as it would provide increased purchasing leverage.

If Lewiston needs to purchase two new police cars and Auburn one, then a better deal is traditionally better in buying three at once. This is true across the board, whether purchasing sand for winter roads, office supplies or even new equipment for first responders.

Merging the two cities will allow city officials to provide the services that both cities currently offer residents but with less cost outlay. It will free up money that can be utilized for the benefit of Lewiston-Auburn residents, such as for general assistance, food pantries, investments in public transportation and other outreach avenues.

I hope Twin Cities residents will vote their hearts this coming election.
