RUMFORD — Darlene Anderson, 67, of Rumford hit two vehicles after the brakes failed on her 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis as she was traveling east on Route 2 on Friday morning.

“I came down over Falls Hill perfect, I had brakes,” Anderson said after the accident. Her daughter Lisa McIntyre, a passenger in the vehicle, said that her mother’s brakes “let go” right after she drove down from Falls Hill. Her mother turned off the ignition in an effort to stop the car and to avoid hitting an SUV stopped to make a turn, McIntyre said.

Rumford police Sgt. James Bernard said Anderson struck a 2012 Honda driven by Melissa Carrier, 30, of Rumford as she was waiting to turn onto Franklin Street, pushing the vehicle out of the way. Anderson then turned onto Morse Bridge and struck a 2018 Subaru owned by Patricia Kenyon, 71, of Upton.

All three vehicles sustained over $1,000 damage. No injuries were reported, Bernard said.
