University Credit Union is celebrating its 50th year. Each of the six UCU branches held a celebration Friday to say thank you to members, said Stephanie Beck, marketing manager. UCU started with a filing cabinet and two chairs in the basement of Coburn Hall in 1967 on the campus of the University of Maine in Orono to serve UMO employees, she said. Over the years it grew to include the entire UM System of students, faculty and immediate family members plus Maine Maritime Academy. The now 28,000 members live throughout Maine, and in other states and countries. At the Farmington UCU celebration are, left, Deb White-Rideout, senior vice president for operations, and Beck.
