POLAND — On Tuesday, voters in Regional School Unit 16 approved a $5.7 million bond to expand and renovate Bruce M. Whittier Middle School and Poland Regional High School. The tally was 1,515 to 1,462.

Poland voters approved the measure 812-704; Mechanic Falls rejected it, 343-398; and Minot voters tied 360-360, with three blank votes.

The schools are in the same building, and the renovation will give the schools more separation while providing enough space to have all students under one roof.

The modular buildings contain six middle school classrooms.

The cost of financing the bond will be based on the percentage of students from each town enrolled at the school.
