PORTLAND — The Casco Bay Bridge was closed Thursday morning while police investigated an accident in Portland.
Shortly after 8 a.m., South Portland police closed the bridge at the request of Portland police, who were dealing with a crash on York Street near the entrance to the bridge. The accident involved two cars, one of which hit a building.
Police closed the bridge because of concern that the crash could have caused a natural gas leak. The bridge reopened around 8:45 a.m.
A two-car crash at the intersection of York and Park streets in Portland sent one car into a building breaking a natural gas line. Police say the gas is off. It shut down the Casco bay bridge briefly, but it’s now open. (WGME photo)
