ANSWER: All through the year, and especially at Christmastime, one of my favorite radio stations is WHOM – 94.9 FM. They broadcast from the top of Mount Washington and play a fabulous selection of contemporary holiday music as well as all the old favorites. I especially like John Tesh’s “Intelligence for Your Life” that comes on at 7 p.m. During his show he not only plays lovely Christmas tunes but he also shares lots of fun facts that have even helped me with the answers for Sun Spots!

Readers, please help with making a list of all the radio stations that play ’round the clock Christmas music!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for some Christmas stories that would be appropriate to read to my elderly mom. She likes novels and short stories. Can you help?

ANSWER: Can I ever! I could fill column after column with recommendations! If you hot-foot it over to your local library and/or the closest bookstore, you’ll be totally blown away by all the holiday books. Some are very obvious and some are not Christmas books per se but have chapters about Christmas.

My all-time favorite holiday book is “Norman Rockwell’s Christmas Book,” published in 1977. This volume of collected short stories, illustrated with many of the artist’s famous paintings, is filled with short stories, poems and carols. Excerpts from the Gospels of Saints Matthew and Luke, “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry, “Mr. Edwards Meets Santa Claus” by Laura Ingalls Wilder, “Christmas in Maine” by Robert P.T. Coffin, and “Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus” by Francis Church are all included, as well as many others.

Other titles I have in my own collection include “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” by Dylan Thomas, “The Christmas Box” by Paul Richard Evans, and books from Jan Karon’s Mitford series. “Fallen Angels” by Don Snyder is another favorite and is set right here in Maine. Right now I’m reading a really fun novel set in Cornwall, England entitled, “Christmas at Little Beach Street Bakery” by Jenny Colgan. Next on my list is “Christmas in Paris” by Anita Hughes.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can we have a list of which restaurants are open on Christmas Day? Whenever I think of Sun Spots I remember long ago my mother would ask the neighbors when she needed advice about something. We have the modern version right here. Thank you so much for all you do.
