PHILLIPS — Police say a local man whose vehicle struck a pole Thursday on Wheeler Hill Road faces a drunken-driving charge. The man’s dog died in the crash.

David Crowley, 73, of Phillips was heading toward Route 142 when his vehicle went off the road and struck a utility pole and snapped it, Trooper Keith Barton wrote in an email.

Crowley was issued a summons on a charge of operating under the influence of alcohol, according to Barton.

Crowley was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and was medically cleared, Barton wrote.
