AUBURN — Bernard Fishman and Jennifer Dube will address the noon Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Lunch Club on Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Village Inn, 165 High St. The two will discuss the creation of a 21st Century Learning Lab at the Maine State Museum.

Fishman is director of the Maine State Museum. He grew up in New York City and has degrees from Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania. For three years he worked in Egypt as an Egyptologist for the University of Chicago, and for over 30 years he has been a museum director, leading five museums in five states.

Fishman has been director of the Maine State Museum since 2012. Growing up he spent many summers in Maine and for years his family had five and ten cent stores in four Maine locations, including Waterville, under the name of M.H. Fishman Co.

Dube is director of Friends of the Maine State Museum. Having had her first date and her wedding in a museum, Dube enjoys the discovery and education that museums offer and has traveled to visit them as far away as Egypt.

As a certified grant writer and continuous improvement lean leader, Dube brings with her over 20 years of development, marketing and operations experience to the Friends of the Maine State Museum.

She has a passion for building awareness for the vital and critical part that private funding plays in preserving, protecting and making collections and exhibits accessible to people of all ages at the MSM.

As one of  3 percent of museums accredited nationally, the state museum is embarking on creating a 21st Century Learning Lab that will allow visitors unprecedented access to collections, museum educators, curators and scientists. Fishman and Dube will share more about the project and plans to connect Maine with history, heritage and natural sciences collections.

Reservations are not required.
