AUBURN — Police say a Windham man was wrestled to the ground and arrested Thursday for brandishing a knife near the Mechanics’ Row parking garage.

Christopher Libbey, 30, was charged with refusing to submit to arrest and on a warrant charging him with violating probation on a previous robbery charge.

He was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail.

At about 1:30 p.m., police in Lewiston requested help from officers in Auburn in locating Libbey at an address on High Street, police said.

According to Auburn police Lt. Scott Watkins, Lewiston police had been searching for Libbey in order to arrest him on multiple counts of domestic assault.

When Auburn police arrived at that address, officers spotted Libbey with a knife in his hand. He fled on foot and police gave chase, catching up with the suspect a short distance away.

Libbey remained at the county jail later Thursday. He was being held without bail because of the alleged probation violation.
