LIVERMORE FALLS — Volunteers and food donations are needed for the annual free Christmas dinner on Christmas Day.

It will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25, at the George Bunten American Legion Post 10, 17 Reynolds Ave.

Debbie Breton, Rose Darling and Renda Guild have taken over organizing the meal.

“It’s been held for at least 10 years,” Breton said.

The menu includes ham and turkey with all the fixings, plus beverages and pies. Guests take home a bag of cookies.

Volunteers are needed to cook hams or turkeys in their homes. Help is needed at the post to prepare, cook, serve and clean up.

Foods needed are hams, turkeys, canned green beans, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, pies and cookies. Rolls, squash, potatoes, gravy and apple crisp have been acquired.

Donations may be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. this week at River View Plumbing and Heating, 3 Bridge St., Livermore Falls.

The meal is for anyone who is alone on Christmas, can’t do a meal or just wants to be with a wonderful group of people. It is free for anyone who wants to come, regardless of where one lives. Meals will be delivered to those living in the tri-town area of Livermore, Livermore Falls and Jay, Darling said.

Numbers are needed to ensure enough food is prepared. Those planning to attend or needing meals delivered should contact Renda Guild at 931-7338, Rose Darling at 491-2831, or Debbie Breton at 897-5095.

Breton said about 40 meals were delivered to the elderly last year.

“It’s amazing to see the people attending and how appreciative they are,” Guild said.

“I hate to run out of food,” Darling said.
