VINALHAVEN — Junior forward Leonardo Perez drilled a pair of free throws and was 4-of-6 form the line in the final quarter to give Rangeley its first lead of the game and help the Lakers capsize Vinalhaven 53-47 in boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Freshman guard William Brey also stepped up in the final quarter for the Lakers (6-3) with five points on two field goals. Kyle LaRochelle carried the offensive weight with 25 points for Rangeley.

Senior Keon Arey tossed a game-high 28 points for the Vikings (0-9) in the losing effort.

Oak Hill 50, Mtn. Valley 36

WALES — Darryn Bailey earned a double-double by scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds to lead the Oak Hill boys’ basketball team to a 50-36 win over Mountain Valley on Saturday.

Gavin Rawstron scored 10 points, while Adam LaPointe added nine points for the Raiders (4-4).

The turning point for Oak Hill was their defensive play, shutting down Mountain Valley in the middle two quarters.

Cameron Godbois led the Falcons (4-4) with seven points.

Spruce Mountain 59, Madison 46

JAY — Senior guard Brett Frey tickled the twines with a game-high 26 points to lead Spruce Mountain to a 59-46 victory over Madison in boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Senior guard Mason Shink contributed eight points, while Andrew Shaw collected 10 rebounds for the Phoenix (8-1)

Seniors Matt Oliver and Evan Bess posted 10 points each for the Bulldogs (5-3) in the losing effort.

Lake Region 57, Poland 28

POLAND — Junior forward Mark Mayo netted a game-high 15 points to lead Lake Region to a 57-28 victory over Poland in boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers (3-5) bested the Knights (0-5) in each frame, pulling away in the fourth quarter. Isaac Holland scored all five of his points in the final frame.

Senior guard Peter Bolduc paced Poland with a team-leading 10 points in the losing effort.

Girls’ basketball

Mountain Valley 48, Hall-Dale 37

RUMFORD — Freshman Rylee Sevigny scored a game-high 15 points to lead Mountain Valley to a 48-37 victory over Hall-Dale in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons (6-2) consistently outpaced Hall-Dale in each quarter. Brooke Carrier contributed 13 points for Mountain Valley.

Sabrina Freeman recorded a team-high 13 points for the Bulldogs (2-6) in the losing effort.

Gray-NG 52, Sacopee Valley 14

GRAY — Jordan Grant and Brianna Jordan combined for 13 first-quarter points as Gray-New Gloucester crushed Sacopee Valley 52-14 in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Grant finished with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Jordan added 12 points, six steals and four assists for the Patriots (5-2).

Brenna Humphrey and Brynn Hink were the leading scorers for the Hawks (0-6). They had three points apiece, while four other players provided a single two-point field goal each in the losing effort.

Vinalhaven 51, Rangeley 32

VINALHAVEN — Senior forward Jilleyanne Davis-Oakes recorded a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds to pace Vinalhaven to a 51-32 triumph over Rangeley in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings only led by four points with a 22-18 score at the half. Senior guard Deja Doughtly contributed nine points as Vinalhaven stepped up the offense and defense in the second half.

Senior foward Natasha Haley led the Lakers (7-2) with 14 points on four field goals, including a three-pointer, and three free throws in the losing effort.

Portland 57, Edward Little 42

PORTLAND — Sophomore forward Gemima Motema produced a team-high 18 points to lead Portland to a 57-42 victory over Edward Little in girls’ basketball action Saturday evening.

The Bulldogs (5-2) scored on numerous second chance opportunities. Freshman guard Amanda Kabantu contributed 13 points for Portland.

Sophomore guard Hanna Chaput netted eight field goals, including a pair of treys, for 18 points for the Red Eddies (4-3) in the losing effort.

Boys’ hockey

Thornton 2, St. Dom’s 1, OT

BIDDEFORD — Chandler Bilodeau made sure the overtime period didn;t last too long Saturday night in a battle of top Class A boys’ ice hockey teams.

Bilodeau sniped a shot past St. Dom’s netminder Gaston Fuksa just 31 seconds into the extra frame to lift the Trojans (4-3) past the Saints (3-4-1) 2-1 at Biddeford Ice Arena.

Owen Dubois had the other TA goal, scoring just 1:57 into the contest.

The Saints tied the game at 5:50 of the first on a Mack Pelletier strike.

Lucas Pushard and Ben Gosselin had assists.

Fuksa finished with 27 saves in the loss for St. Dom’s. Seth Dube turned back 25 to earn the win.

Lewiston 10, Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse 1

BRUNSWICK — Dustin Larochelle, Alex Robert and Jack LeBlond netted a pair of goals each as Lewiston High School peppered Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse 10-1 in a Class A North boys’ hockey tilt at Bowdoin College on Saturday.

BRUNSWICK — Grace Dumond scored a pair of goals, including the game-opener, as Lewiston/Monmouth/Oak Hill cruised to a 7-0 shutout over Morse/Mt. Ararat in girls’ ice hockey action Saturday evening.

The Blue Devils (11-0) skated to a 4-0 lead in the first period. Jordan Mynahan and Katie Poland scored a goal and an assist each for Lewiston.

Goalie Camree St.Hilaire made 10 saves for Lewiston, while goalie Lily Schenk stopped 26 for the Eagles (0-9).
