LEWISTON — A class on French-speaking immigrants and ukulele lessons make up two of the more than 30 new classes coming to Lewiston Adult Education in the winter-spring semester.

Professor Mary T. Rice-Defosse of Bates College will teach French in Lewiston-Auburn, a one-night history lesson. Margery Landis shall help students strum in Play the Ukulele. School Supt. Bill Webster will talk about the construction of the new Connors Elementary School in a free spring program.

Returning classes include Welding, Certified Nursing Assistant and Cooking Matters. Excel classes are coming back after a hiatus.

Super Saturday, which will be held on April 7, will have a green focus with Organic Gardening, Butterflies and an electric car class. A CPR/first aid class and Oval Twill Basket are other classes available.

Lewiston Comedian Dawn Hartill will teach a new session of stand-up comedy workshop beginning Thursday, March 1. She was a member of the first class to be held at Lewiston Adult Education and has since gone on to perform all over Maine and New Hampshire. She has placed in multiple comedy competitions and was the 2016 Strand Cup Comedy Competition winner.

Students in Hartill’s class will learn how to write and perform comedy and get to tell their jokes as part of a live performance at Guthrie’s Cafe, 115 Middle St., on Monday, April 2.
