FARMINGTON — Franklin County Animal Shelter has announced its Pets of the Week, two pets who have been featured in the Pets of the Week program.

Penny, the Dog of the Week, is 9 years old and is a DNA-tested and is a Jack Russell Terrier. Penny is a high-energy girl who shows no sign of slowing down with age. She enjoys riding in cars, kayaking (she has excellent balance), and mousing. She knows some basic commands like “stay,” “sit,” “down,” “crawl” and “time for bed.” Penny is crate-trained and is looking for a home away from the road with a secure run.

Abby-the-Cat, a senior feline, is again the Cat of the Week. Abby is diabetic and needs a family who will be comfortable giving insulin shots on a daily basis. She is comfortable among other social cats, but she can be timid around dogs.

Abby-the-Cat, Penny and other pets may be visited at the shelter from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays at 550 Industry Road. Cats and dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption and have been vaccinated for rabies, treated for fleas, microchipped and have had nail trims. The shelter also rehomes barn cats, livestock and other pets.
