RUMFORD — The Board of Selectmen voted 5-0 Thursday to extend Town Manager Linda-Jean Briggs’ contract for three years. She’s completing her first year.

The motion by Selectman Peter Chase included that the terms be released once it’s signed, perhaps on Feb. 1.

Board Chairman Chris Brennick said Briggs has helped the town in a number of ways.

“Employee morale has improved . . . She’s done a good job securing grants and moving projects toward completion,” he said.

In other business, it was announced that Jeremy Volkernick has resigned as Regional School Unit 10 director. His term expires in June.

Brennick asked that anyone interested in serving come to the Town Office and fill out papers.

Briggs announced the town will present a certificate, in lieu of Rumford’s Boston Post Cane, to Mariette Dolloff, who will be 100 on March 23. The presentation to the town’s oldest resident will be Feb. 1 at her home.

Chase said he believes it’s been at least 40 years since the town has had a Boston Post Cane recipient.

The cane needs to be repaired and Briggs said she has received an estimate for the job. She said she would like to have it placed in the Rumford Falls Auditorium.

Selectmen voted 5-0 to authorize Briggs to write a letter to Charter Communications expressing disappointment at relocating the public access channel from 7 to 1301.

The board approved a taxi license for Charles Martin of Red’s Taxi, retroactive to Jan. 1.

A blanket letter of approval for a games of chance license, including beano and cribbage, was approved for American Legion Post 24, BPO Elks 862, VFW 1641 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1248.
