LEWISTON — A La Rencontre (the gathering) is scheduled for 11:25 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at the Gendron Franco Center, 46 Cedar St., when Marc P. Mailhot of Westbrook will play and sing.

Mailhot is a pianist and drummer, having played drums with “Love, Inc.,” Maine’s most popular and successful band from 1968 to 1971. They are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2018 and Mailhot will perform two original songs from the band during his show. He will also perform a number of classical and popular songs and will lead a sing-along with the audience.

The cost of the meal and the programs is $12 a person. The doors and the bar open at 10 a.m. Guests may contact the center office for reservations at 207-783-1585. Email reservations may be sent to boxoffice@francocenter.org.

La Rencontre is not restricted to French-speakers or even those of Franco descent. All are welcome to attend the monthly meal and event, as long as spots remain open. The meal is a chicken fricassee, peas and carrots, rolls and red gelatin with cream for dessert.

Reed Mszar, a senior at Bates College studying biochemistry, sociology and public health, will distribute an anonymous survey during the event. Mszar has been collaborating with Dr. Dervilla McCann of CMMC for over two years. He and McCann are working on a major effort to increase public awareness for cardiovascular disease and familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), a condition characterized by premature heart disease and high cholesterol.

Several raffle prizes will be drawn.

The Gendron Franco Center is handicapped accessible and is located on the corner of Cedar and Oxford streets.
