AUBURN — A grand jury indicted an Otisfield man Tuesday on charges, including attempted murder, stemming from a December stabbing at a Lewiston barbershop.

Besides attempted murder, Michael Barrucci, 24, was charged with elevated aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated assault in a Dec. 6 stabbing at Major Cuts at 79 Chestnut St.

Three of the charges are felonies, each punishable by up to 30 years in prison; the maximum penalty for the remaining charge is 10 years in prison.

Barrucci is being held at Androscoggin County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash or $400,000 in real estate.

Police said he stabbed Rashad Robinson, 35, during a fight in the shop shortly before it closed.

Robinson told police his estranged wife had “set me up” because she knew he was having a haircut when she and Barrucci appeared at the shop because she was jealous of Robinson.

When police responded to the scene, they found Robinson lying on his back at the entrance to the barbershop, a large laceration in his chest and a large pool of blood near his abdomen.

Inside the shop, Barrucci, covered in blood, was standing holding a brown folding knife. He was ordered to drop it, which he did, police said.

He was shouting into his cellphone: “I was trying to kill the f—–,” police said.

A barber told police that Robinson had gotten out of his chair and had approached Barrucci and Robinson’s estranged wife when they entered the shop. The two men were standing when they started fighting but ended up on the floor, according to witnesses.

Nicole Robinson told police she and Barrucci had tried to avoid her estranged husband and had booked an appointment at the shop for 5:30 p.m.

A court clerk said Barrucci’s case is likely to be specially assigned to a judge in Androscoggin County Superior Court.
