UMF roundup: Men's hoop team wins 7th straight conference game

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington men’s basketball team won its seventh straight conference game with a 94-89 victory over Castleton University on Saturday afternoon at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Amir Moss led the Beavers in scoring with 22 points on 7-for-10 shooting and 3-for-5 from behind the arc, while going 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. Milani Hicks scored 21 points after finishing 6-8 from the floor and 9-14 from the free throw line.

Bill Ruby added 19 points and eight rebounds, while Riley Robinson added 17 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Senior Eric Berry finished with nine points and eight assists to go along with three steals.

Julian Santos led all scorers with 24 points off the bench for Castleton after shooting 9-16 from the floor with six three-pointers. Tondi Mushandu added 16 points with eight rebounds and two assists while Pavin Parrish added 14 points.

UMF 84, Green Mountain 64

FARMINGTON – THE UMaine-Farmington men’s basketball team skated past Green Mountain with an 84-64 at Dearborn Gymnasium on Friday night.

Bill Ruby scored a career-high 31 points after shooting 13-for-15 from the floor with four free throws. Ruby collected three rebounds, one assist and three steals.

Riley Robinson added 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting with one 3-pointer and two free throws to go along with three rebounds and one assist.

Milani Hicks finished with seven points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Eric Berry and Michael Atkin each added 10 points.

• Green Mountain’s Alex Sanchez finished with 15 points on 5-10 shooting and 3-7 from behind the arc.

Castleton 63, UMF 48

FARMINGTON – UMaine-Farmington women’s basketball team lost to Castleton University 63-48 Saturday afternoon.

• Cheyenne Malloy and McKenna Brodeur led the Beavers in scoring with 10 points each. Malloy went 3-for-5 from behind the arc and hit a free throw. Brodeur went 5-for-14 from the floor with five rebounds, one assist and two steals.

• Jenessa Talarico finished the day with five points and 10 assists, while Morgan Crocker finished with eight points.

• Amanda Beatty led all scorers with 20 points on 8-for-21 shooting and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. Beatty also notched a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Friday’s game

UMF 69, Green Mountain 56

FARMINGTON – UMaine-Farmington women’s basketball team flew past Green Mountain College 69-56 at Dearborn Gymnasium on Friday night.

McKenna Brodeur led all scorers with 21 points after shooting 7-for-9 from the floor and 7-for-7 at the free-throw line. Cheyenne Malloy added 12 points with four 3-pointers, while Haley Felkel finished with a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

• Morgan Crocker added eight points along with Emilee Eustis added five points.

• Sharena Armstrong finished with 19 points after shooting 9-for-20 from the floor while Mercedes Rideout added 14 points.

The University of Maine at Farmington Alpine women’s team took to the snowy hills of western Maine at Black Mountain on Sunday. The Beavers finished second as a team with a total time of 5:32.05 on 12.59 seconds behind Bowdoin, which leads the division. This is the women’s second time earning second place honors in seven days. The women were led by freshman Brianna Marquis, who placed second overall with a combined time of 1:43.30, only .70 behind the day’s winner. Freshman Jenny Hancock placed second for the team and 10th overall with a time of 1:50.03. Senior newcomer Sandy Mait rounded out the women’s top three with a time of 1:56.08 and placing 15th overall. The top three scorers for the women’s team were all in the top 15th for the first time this year. The UMF Alpiine men finished first overall as a team with a total time of 4:59.02, finishing 7.12 seconds ahead of Bowdoin. Leading the men was sophomore Curtis Paradis, who after the first run was in first, ending up third overall. Freshman Axel Lindsay placed second for the team and fourth overall. Junior and captain Jedediah Stevens rounded out the mens top three, with an eighth overall. The men placed six men in the top 12 today, including Curtis Paradis, Axel Lindsay, Jedediah Stevens, Mike Miller, Charlie de Haas, and Benjamin Higgins.
