LEWISTON — Hannaford’s started a $2.9 million renovation of its Sabattus Street store, work that will bring online ordering and curbside pickup later this year.
Spokesman Eric Blom said it’s part of a regular cycle of refreshing the chain’s 181 stores.
“It is a total store remodel — really, every department will be touched,” he said Wednesday. “The flooring, decor, equipment will be improved, but we’re also adding some features. We’re going to have a Hannaford To Go there. We’re also going to be introducing some new products like more grab-and-go-type meal solutions.”
The store at 692 Sabattus St. was built in 1990 and last remodeled about 12 years ago, he said. The city has assessed the property and land at $4.2 million.
Work is expected to finish in early fall. The store will remain open throughout the renovation.
Nine Maine stores already offer Hannaford To Go, though none near Lewiston-Auburn. The service allows customers to order online four hours or more in advance and have groceries delivered to their car, paying at their vehicle, for a fee of up to $5.
Locally, Hannaford is also starting site work on its new location in Mechanic Falls, according to Blom.
