Manager McHugh of the Lewiston polo club has been notified that it will not be possible to hold the Lewiston-Portland game in city hall Tuesday night. Theaters close Tuesday on account of being allowed to run on the “heatless Mondays” and the fuel administration ruled that polo games and sports held in heated halls must not run. Mr. McHugh stated that the question of money for extra games had never entered into the matter of Lincoln and Carrigan playing the Saturday night game at Providence. Mr. McHugh has been willing, he said, to meet all reasonable and just demands of his players and will see that they get the best of usage possible. It is not known when the Lewiston-Portland game will be played.
50 years ago, 1968
The possibility of constructing a new Catholic high school in Lewiston will be the topic of discussion this evening at a meeting of Catholic school officials. Father Georges Plante, chairman of the Advisory Board for St. Dominic’s Regional High School, said the board’s membership will attend the meeting, along with the chairmen of school boards of the various Lewiston-Auburn parishes. Also expected to attend are members of the Education Committee of St. Dominic’s Alumni Association. The school officials will discuss the “feasibility” of a new school. Plans are only in the preliminary stages, he said.

Those hungry ducks spotted recently in shopping centers and sidewalks in downtown are not starving, but savvy. Auburn police have received numerous complaints from local residents spotting the mallards in the Great Falls Plaza parking lot, by Roak Block, Auburndale Shopping Center and Super Shop ‘n Save, said Animal Control Officer Roger Fleming. “People feed them and that’s why they’re there,” Fleming said. “They’re being fed by shoppers and concerned citizens so they’re not starving. They’re migratory birds, so there’s nothing we can do to control them.” He estimated that about 300 mallard ducks live in the Lewiston-Auburn-Sabattus area.
