PARIS — A Westbrook man was released on bail Sunday evening after being arrested on a charge of speeding 30-plus mph over the limit and providing the arresting officer with a false name, officials said.
Caleb Lapierre, 22, was also charged with illegal attachment of plates, operating after suspension, two counts of failure to appear, and theft by deception, Oxford Police Chief Jonathan Tibbetts.
He said Sgt. Alan Coffin clocked Lapierre driving 97 mph in a 50-mph zone on Route 26.
“When the vehicle was stopped, Lapierre, at first, gave Sgt. Coffin a false name,” Tibbetts said. “Sgt. Coffin arrested him for criminal speeding under the false name, ‘Joshua Perez.’”
Tibbetts said that after taking Lapierre to the Oxford County Jail, Coffin contacted Oxford Casino, where Lapierre said he was coming from when stopped, and confirmed Lapierre’s real name.
“We found out that he was actually Caleb Lapierre, that the plates he had attached to his vehicle were illegally attached, that he was under suspension, and that he was out on bail for some issues in Cumberland County,” Tibbetts said.
