INDUSTRY — Voters will go to the polls from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Town Hall to elect a selectman and a Regional School Unit 9 director.

The annual town meeting will reconvene at 2 p.m. for all other business.

Second Selectman Rob Geisser didn’t return nomination papers but said he would take the position if he wins as a write-in.

Selectmen Lee Ireland and Dovey Balsam said Jesse Sillanpaa attended a selectmen meeting to gauge the board’s support, should he seek the school board position. They believe he would accept the position, but attempts to verify that were unsuccessful.

The total budget for 2018 is $456,944, which is $47,495 more than last year.

Voters will be asked to raise and appropriate $100,000 for paving town roads, an increase of $70,000 over last year. They will also be asked to borrow $400,000 for paving, with the first of four payments due in 2019.

“We’re looking to commit to paving town roads. If approved, we can repair a lot more town roads,” Ireland said. “We’ll prioritize the roads that need it the worst.”

Rand Road and a continuation on Shaw Hill Road are possibilities.

Ireland said the administration budget is up $5,000 to cover the cost of computer software updates. Trucks was increased to $40,000 to bring that account back up to base level.

He said the Fire Department spent less than budgeted, with the remaining balance carried forward to this year.

Last year, $50,145 was approved for winter roads because money was carried forward from the previous year. More was spent last year, so the entire $75,000 budgeted annually is being asked, Ireland said.

He said $1,000 is being requested for the lakefront improvement account, a decrease of $3,000. The aluminum dock project at Clearwater Lake is finished so only routine maintenance is needed.

The final article seeks $50,000 from the undesignated fund balance to lower the total tax commitment.
