GRAY — Police on Wednesday charged a student at Gray-New Gloucester Middle School with terrorizing after a bomb threat was found on a stall in a boys’ bathroom.
The 13-year-old boy was released to the custody of his parent after consultation with a juvenile community corrections officer, according to information from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
The middle school was evacuated about 1 p.m., and students were taken to the high school before being dismissed for the day.
The threat indicated that the middle school would be “getting bombed,” and warned that the threat should be taken seriously, according to information distributed by the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police, with two explosive-detecting police dogs, searched the school. Although no bombs or explosive devices were found, the threat still rises to a criminal act, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
“In this instance (and others like it), threats of violence are not considered jokes or pranks, and are never taken lightly,” according to Lt. Donald Foss. “These actions are criminal acts, which are frightening to students, school staff, and parents.”
The case is being referred to the juvenile division of the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office and to Juvenile Community Corrections.
