FARMINGTON — Farmington Rotary has presented donations to the Mallett School literacy programs and to Western Maine Homeless Outreach.

The Rotary Club meets in the North Dining Hall at UMF at 7 a.m. every Thursday. Childcare is available.

Western Maine Homeless Outreach is the only homeless shelter located in Franklin County. The shelter currently can accommodate 16 people and is  looking to expand. Case managers work with guests to achieve permanent housing.

The Pre-K teachers at the WG Mallett School developed a program three years ago to provide the 64 children enrolled with books to take home each month during the school year.

The Reading Recovery Program has been in existence for 40 years and continues to be developed. RSU 9 has six certified reading recovery teachers serving first-grade students who need a little extra boost as they learn to read.

“We are very appreciative of the donation from Rotary that will allow us to replace some of our much loved titles,” says Sharri Kapiloff.

Rotary President Glenn Kapiloff presents a check to support Mallett School literacy to Sharri Kapiloff, Vicki Foster, Brenda Burnell, Erika Neal and Sara Spear.
