LEWISTON — A rare interview with the pastor of First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas, will be shown at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Lifetree Cafe.

The program, “In the News: God and Guns” provides an opportunity for participants to discuss the issue of church security and features an interview with Frank Pomeroy, pastor of a Texas church targeted in a shooting that claimed 26 lives in November 2017.

“There’s a line you don’t want to cross between being a fortress and being welcoming,” Pomeroy says. “You want people to feel welcome, but you also want them to feel safe. I’m not going to be drawn into the complacency trap again.”

Participants will have an opportunity to discuss what level of security, ranging from none to armed security personnel, churches should offer.

Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Lifetree Cafe is located at 1919 Lisbon Road.
