POLAND — The RSU 16 board of directors has approved a calendar for 2018-19. It must now be approved by the state.
The Poland, Minot and Mechanic Falls calendar calls for school to start Wednesday, Aug. 29, for kindergarten through seventh grade, as well as ninth grade. All others will start Thursday, Aug. 30.
With no snow days, school will end in a half-day on Tuesday, June 11.
The calendar allows for eight snow days, possibly extending the school year to Friday, June 21. That’s an increase for the school system. This year’s calendar originally allowed for six, but the board added another two last month after schools came close to running out.
Next year’s calendar calls for 37 early-release Wednesdays. It also schedules eight in-service days, including three before students start class in August.
