RUMFORD — Martha Kimball Hanington, 82, died Monday, March 19, at her residence on Eaton Hill Road in Rumford.

She was born in Rumford on Jan. 24, 1936, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Spaulding) Kimball, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1954.

She was a member of Oozalluc Temple No. 88, Pythian Sisters, past matron of Mt. Zircon Chapter No. 142, O.E.S., member of RAAPA, where she served as treasurer, and member of Virgin Memorial Chapel of the Rumford United Methodist Church, where she very active in the Church Belles, Sara Ann Study Group and committees of the church and also GRAMPS.

Martha was also an active volunteer and has crafted and donated more than 300 comfort covers (lap robes) to the Rumford Hospital over the years.

She was married in Rumford on May 21, 1956, to Albert G. Hanington, who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include daughters, April Hogan and husband, William, of East Greenbush, N.Y., and Robin Priest and wife, Bernice, of Oxford; sons, Mark Hanington of California and Bryce Hanington and companion, Candy Welch, of Rumford; sisters, Dorothy Hopkins of Leesburg, Fla., Mary Pulsifer and husband, James, of Peru; brothers, William Kimball Jr. and companion, Sandra Skillings, of Dixfield, and David Kimball of The Villages, Fla.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Albert Hanington Jr.

The family would like to thank the staff at Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice for their care and kindness, and also to her special caretakers who made it possible for Martha to remain at home. A special thanks to Candy Welch for all the care and support shown to Martha.
